Alexei Kruchenykh was a Russian poet, artist and theorist regarded as one of the most radical figures of Russian Futurism. With fellow Futurist Velimir Khlebnikov, he is credited as a co-inventor of zaum, an experimental poetic language built from invented, non-referential words. Kruchenykh collaborated closely with Suprematist and Cubo-Futurist artists, notably co-writing the libretto for the seminal 1913 opera Victory Over the Sun.
